Sitka is located on Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska on Pacific Ocean. Sitka is a small coastal town with about 8,500 people that can only be reached by boat or plane. Sitka is a Temperate rainforest that is part of the Tongass National Forest, so expect lots of rain and cooler temperatures. Temperatures in the summer range from 50-65 degrees.

Work at SPC can encompass a number of different activities and tasks. Processors do everything from cleaning fish, trimming fillets to loading freezers and boxing the finished product. Your specific job will be determined by the quantity of fish that is received at the plant, our production needs, and your abilities.

Working in a fish processing plant is demanding, involves long hours of repetitive work in a cold and wet environment. Based on the resources of fish there will be times where employees will be working 12-16 hours a day without a day off. We are looking for job applicants that have strong work ethics, discipline, and drive to do quality work day in and day out.

Longline Season (Sablefish, Halibut and Rockfish) runs March-November. Salmon runs occur July-September (Chinook/Kings, Coho/Silvers, Chum/Dog Salmon, Pinks/Humpies).

SPC offers hourly wages above the Alaska minimum wage. Overtime is earned on all hours in excess of 8 hours in a single day or 40 hours in a single week. Overtime rate is 1.5 times the hourly wage. SPC offers an end of season bonus for employees that work the entire season.

Our facility has a bunkhouse with 12 rooms able to house 26 people. The Bunkhouse has men’s and women’s showers, kitchen, and laundry onsite. While housed onsite, employees are expected to follow the company’s bunkhouse rules and regulations which are stated in the bunkhouse agreement. We have a Zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol both in the workplace and the bunkhouse.

Proper employment documentation
Boots, Aprons and Gloves are provided, employees will be responsible for bringing clean rain gear, which can be purchased in town.
Warm Work Clothes-Working in the plant is a wet, cold and humid environment. Layering works well when working or enjoying the outdoors.
Sitka has several local grocery and clothing stores for any personal items that you might need.
